Physicians for Haiti is seeking physicians and medical students to assist with a project developing online continuing medical education resources for Haitian physicians.
Physicians for Haiti is a Boston-based NGO that aims to inspire, empower, and support the development of leaders among Haiti's next generation of health professionals. We work towards a self-sustaining postgraduate Haitian medical education system that is a source of pride for Haiti, equips Haitian health care professionals to provide high quality care to all Haitians, and is built on a foundation of equity and collaboration.
We are seeking physicians, physician equivalents (PA, NP), and advanced medical students to research a range of inpatient and outpatient topics in medicine, generating case-based modules that would cover key questions and provide an evidence-based review of key information. These would be designed to take 30-45 minutes, would either be posted online or distributed via CDs, and will be translated by our NGO into French, as well as being posted in their original English.
Volunteers for this project should have an interest in medical education and/or global health, ideally with prior experience doing focused literature reviews. Global health experience (especially in Haiti), French fluency, and specialist knowledge of the topics arranged below are very welcome, but are not required. Medical students should be in their third or fourth year of medical school. Volunteers will be acknowledged as authors in the modules, which will be freely available online.
Expected topics for the first round will include the following:
Inpatient: stroke, heart failure, encephalopathy, liver diseases, dermatology (impetigo, varicella, measles), nutrition in the neonate, acid/base, renal failure
Outpatient: heart failure, epigastric pain, headache, hypertension, vaginal discharge, dermatology (common rashes, impetigo, varicella, measles), renal failure
Professional development: how to teach to small groups (PBL); preparation of a CV and effective interviewing; how to be an effective mentor; effective leadership
